High Performance Program (HPP) Player Development Statement 

The North Bay and District Girls Hockey Association offers and is committed to providing a high performance program and pathway for female hockey players in Northern Ontario who have a high level of commitment to the Junior Lakers program and who have been selected as players who can excel at the highest level at their respective age groups.

The Junior Lakers High Performance Program is committed to providing a high level program with an environment and culture 

  1. for athletes to enjoy playing hockey and contributing to teams success
  2. to develop team and individual skills at the highest level of women’s hockey provided in Ontario 
  3. to develop life skills, emotional and mental well-being that will help athletes to achieve success in all aspects of their life

HPP Mission Statement 

To provide on and off-ice guidance and exposure to the necessary skills and environments needed in helping NBDGHA Players become the best student-athletes possible and to stress the importance of higher education for our players.

  • To provide a high performance AA women’s program with an emphasis on commitment and skill development 
  • To prepare players for Canadian and US university and possibly Team Ontario and Team Canada levels of hockey.
  • To build on the Junior Lakers reputation with a high code of conduct for players and staff 
  • To emphasize continued developmental of life skills

  • Individualized feedback and development programs for players providing players with on and off ice guidance
  • Monthly combined skills development practices with skills expert coaches

  • Opportunity to compete at highest level provincially, nationally and within North America
  • Prepare players for OWHA U16 AND U18 High Performance camps
  • Focus on developing the complete female athlete within an environment that advances their physical, mental, emotional and social strengths.
  • Achieve success in all aspects of their lives
  • Ensure all players practice and play with higher level teams regularly 

High Performance Player Pathway 

The High Player Pathway (HPP) opens many doors and opportunities for the top level athletes within the province of Ontario. The OWHA offers U18 and U16 development programs such as Team Ontario Blue and Team Ontario Red that compete in national championships, as well as sending athletes and coaches to the Ontario Summer Games every other year. The HPP allows Junior Lakers teams to take part in showcase tournaments and other OWHA sanctioned events where scouts are in attendance looking for the next generation of players for provincial (Team Ontario and PWHL), national, university and college opportunities.
